Zafar Iqbal Underwent Radiotherapy
Zafar Iqbal's Story
Zafar Iqbal, a 70-year-old resident of Lahore, found himself facing a daunting challenge when he experienced persistent pain, swelling, and difficulty in eating due to a concerning movement in his lower jaw. After undergoing a thorough medical evaluation, Zafar received a devastating diagnosis – squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity.
Determined to confront this formidable disease, Zafar underwent a complex surgical procedure to excise the tumour and perform a neck dissection. The life-saving operation was performed by a skilled team of oncologists at the Combined Military Hospital in Lahore, through the support of the Transparent Hands organization. The subsequent histopathological report confirmed the presence of a malignant alveolar carcinoma, indicating the critical need for further treatment.
With the surgical intervention completed, Zafar Iqbal now required a course of radiotherapy to enhance his chances of a full recovery and prevent the recurrence of the cancer. However, the financial burden of the comprehensive treatment plan, coupled with his daily living expenses, posed a significant challenge for Zafar and his family.
Zafar’s sons, who contribute to the family’s expenses with their monthly income, found themselves unable to afford the cost of the vital radiotherapy sessions. Recognizing the urgency of Zafar’s situation, his family reached out to Transparent Hands for assistance.Through the collective efforts of compassionate individuals and generous donors, the necessary funds were successfully secured to cover the cost of Zafar’s radiotherapy.
Zafar was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital in Lahore, where he underwent the prescribed adjuvant radiation therapy on May 29,2024 . This crucial treatment aimed to target any remaining cancer cells and reduce the risk of the disease’s return, giving Zafar the best possible chance at a full recovery.
