Muhammad Umer 's Story

Five-year-old Umer, a resident of Nowshera, had congenital sensorineural hearing loss since birth.  When he was a year old and not reacting to their voices, his parents realized that something was wrong. His parents brought him to a local hospital, where he underwent testing. He was diagnosed with sensorineural deafness after consultation. He was advised by the doctor to have cochlear implant surgery. 

Unfortunately, his family was not in a stable financial situation to pay for the surgery. They contacted Transparent Hands for financial assistance.

He was admitted to Ali Medical  Centre, Islamabad where Dr. Jawwad performed his operation on 7-07-2023. The doctor fixed the internal component of the cochlear implant, and the operation was successful. He was discharged after one day in the hospital. However, he had a long way to go before his hearing was fully restored. After a few weeks, he returned to the hospital, where the external component of his cochlear implant was fixed, allowing him to enter a world of sound.   

Umer’s doctor strongly advised him to undergo speech therapy sessions with a qualified professional to enhance his language and communication abilities. With a visit to a skilled speech therapist, he acquired the skills to comprehend and use speech more effectively. The presence of his cochlear implant has granted him the privilege of experiencing the richness of sound, unlocking opportunities for learning, connecting with others, and embracing life’s joys.
