You Supported Sadia’s Subtotal Thyroidectomy

Sadia Nazir's Story

Sadia Nazir, a 17-year-old girl from Lahore, had been experiencing the challenges of Pendred syndrome since birth. This rare condition causes a combination of sensorineural hearing loss and the development of a goiter. Sadia’s life has been affected by this syndrome for a long time, but in recent years, her condition worsened. Her lump on the front of her neck progressively increased in size. Worried about her health, Sadia’s parents took her to a doctor. After conducting an ultrasound scan and some diagnostic tests, the doctor diagnosed Sadia with Multinodular Goiter (MNG). To address this condition and alleviate her discomfort, the doctor recommended a Subtotal Thyroidectomy. Unfortunately, her family couldn’t afford the surgery.

Sadia lived in a modest three-room rented house with her thirteen family members. Her father and brothers worked as daily wage laborers and earned just enough to meet basic ends. Due to their financial constraints, they were unable to afford the significant cost of her surgery. Saddened by their situation, the family reached out to Transparent Hands for support. After reviewing her case, Transparent Hands registered Sadia and scheduled her surgery.

On November 28, 2024, Sadia was admitted to the Lahore Care Hospital. Dr. Ahmed Fawad performed the Subtotal Thyroidectomy. The procedure was successful, and Sadia’s pain and discomfort began to subside. She stayed in the hospital for two days to recover under expert care and was discharged on November 30, 2024.
