Farzana Khatoon's Story
Farzana Khatoon, a three-year-old residing in Larkana, has been enveloped in silence since birth, causing deep concern for her parents. At the age of one, they sought medical advice and learned of her profound sensorineural hearing loss, rendering her unable to perceive any sounds. However, a beacon of hope emerged in the form of a transformative surgery known as a cochlear implant. Yet, the financial strain associated with this procedure loomed large over Farzana’s family, impeding their path to her restoration.
In their quest for assistance, Farzana’s parents discovered Transparent Hands, igniting a spark of renewed hope within them. With determination, they sought our support, paving the way for Farzana’s admission to GIMS Hospital, Gambat. Under the skilled hands of Dr. Maqbool, her surgery took place on January 11, 2024, marking a pivotal moment in her journey.
The implantation of the internal component of the cochlear device signified a significant milestone in Farzana’s hearing restoration, leading to her discharge the following day. Six weeks later, the external component was implanted, ushering in a new phase of speech therapy sessions. These sessions proved instrumental in Farzana’s ability to perceive and process sounds, fostering the development of her language and communication skills.
With the cochlear implant in place, Farzana now delights in actively engaging in conversations and participating in social gatherings. Her newfound ability to hear has profoundly transformed her life, allowing her to fully immerse herself in the world around her.
The success of Farzana’s cochlear implant surgery and her subsequent progress stand as a testament to the invaluable contributions and unwavering support of the generous donors who made this life-altering surgery financially viable for her family. Their compassion and generosity have paved the way for Farzana to embrace a world filled with the richness of sound, opening doors to a brighter and more inclusive future.
