You Saved Shahzaib Ahmed’s Life
Shahzaib Ahmed's Story
Shahzaib Ahmed, a 22-year-old man from Sialkot, had been experiencing debilitating symptoms like breathlessness, chest discomfort, and fatigue since birth due to a heart condition diagnosed as Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), and Pulmonary Stenosis (PS).He underwent his first open-heart surgery for CP Shunt (BDG Shunt) on 20th February 2020. After some time, he went for a follow-up and underwent angiography. After evaluation, the doctor recommended a redo-open heart surgery for the Fontan procedure. However, the significant cost of the surgery was overwhelming for his family.
As a student, he was unable to perform well and obtain good grades. Shahzaib lived in a small house with his four family members. His father was unemployed due to his heart condition. Shahzaib’s brother, the sole breadwinner of the family, worked as a daily wage laborer and made just PKR 25000 per month. They faced immense financial limitations and paying for Shahzaib’s life-saving surgery seemed impossible. During this challenging time, Shahzaib’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. After listening to their concerns, we registered his case.
On 3rd October 2024, Shahzaib was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. His surgery took place on 4th October 2024. Dr. Salman Shah performed his redo-open heart surgery, giving him a second chance at life. After the successful surgery, Shahzaib received post-operative care and was discharged in satisfactory condition on 8th October 2024.
Shahzaib’s parents said with tears of happiness:
“Shahzaib’s lifelong struggle with his heart condition has come to an end now. We wanted to save his life, but we were facing financial hardships and couldn’t pay for his surgery. You supported us in this hard time. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity.”
He can focus on his studies now and have a healthy life. His family is immensely thankful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for making a meaningful difference in his life.
