You Opened the Door to Sounds for Zainab Hafeez
Zainab Hafeez's Story
Zainab Hafeez, a 3-year-old girl from Raheem Yar Khan, had been living in a silent world since birth. Her parents noticed that Zainab was not responding to sounds like other kids of her age. They took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. The doctor conducted some diagnostic tests and diagnosed Zainab with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Upon evaluation, the doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery as it was the only solution that would enable her ability to hear. However, the cost of the surgery was something that Zainab’s family could never afford.
Zainab lives in a two-room mud house with her family. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, has a meager monthly income of PKR 20,000. In such financial hardships, affording the cost of the surgery was an impossible dream for them. After struggling for a while, Zainab’s parents found Transparent Hands and asked us to register her case. Recognizing the importance of Zainab’s case, Transparent Hands quickly responded to the family’s concerns.
On June 5, 2024, Zainab was admitted to the GIMS hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on June 6, 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed performed her cochlear implant surgery. The internal component of the cochlear implant was successfully implanted and the external component was installed six weeks after the surgery.
With regular follow-ups and speech therapy sessions, Zainab began to show signs of improvement. Every little sound she responded to was a victory.
Zainab’s parents shared their emotions, their voices filled with emotions:
“We are grateful for the help we received. We can’t describe our happiness when Zainab responded to our voices for the first time after the surgery. Your support gave our daughter a life filled with opportunities.”
Today, Zainab Hafeez is on her way to a bright future. Her life is filled with the sounds of life that she had never known before. Zainab can now make a new connection with the world. You made a huge impact on her life.
