You Enabled Miraal to Hear Her Parents’ Voices
Miraal Bibi's Story
Miraal Sabih, a 2-year-old girl from Lahore, had been living in a silent world since birth. Miraal was unable to enjoy the cherished moments of her childhood. She couldn’t hear her siblings and parents’ voices. She was missing out on early opportunities to develop communication skills, affecting her ability to interact with kids during playtime. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After conducting some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed Miraal with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and recommended cochlear implant surgery. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond her family’s financial capacity.
Miraal lived in a three-room rented house with her nine family members. Her father and uncle were employed but their meager monthly income barely covered their basic needs. Seeing Miraal not getting opportunities like other kids of her age was heart-breaking for her parents. They wanted to free her from her confined silent world but their financial limitations didn’t allow them to do so. They were praying for a miracle and hope entered their lives when a neighbor told them about Transparent Hands. They contacted us and asked for assistance. After listening to their concerns we swiftly registered her case.
On 12th October 2024, Miraal was admitted to the National Hospital & Medical Centre in Lahore. Her surgery took place on the same day. Dr. Naveed Aslam skillfully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. The surgery was successful and Miraal stayed in the hospital for just one day. After receiving post-operative care, Miraal was discharged in satisfactory condition on 13th October 2024.
Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. Miraal now receives speech therapy sessions as it plays a crucial role in helping children with cochlear implants develop language and communication skills.
Miraal’s parents said with tears of joy:
“The moment my child heard our voices clearly for the first time was like magic. We can’t express how grateful we are for this gift. Our daughter can now thrive in life like other kids. We can’t describe our feelings in words. We are immensely grateful for this favor.”
With a cochlear implant, Miraal can engage effectively with family and friends. Miraal’s family is thankful to you for your unwavering support. You made a meaningful impact on her life.
