You Empowered Zaid with Cochlear Implant Surgery

Muhammad Zaid's Story

Muhammad Zaid, a 2-year-old resident of Gujranwala, had been living in a world of silence since birth. His parents began to worry when he did not respond to sounds or recognize their voices like other children of his age. Concerned about his development, they took him to a nearby hospital for evaluation. After performing several tests, the doctor diagnosed Zaid with congenital sensorineural hearing loss, a condition that affects the auditory nerves. They recommended a cochlear implant surgery to help Zaid hear and eventually learn to speak. Unfortunately, the cost of this life-changing procedure was far beyond the means of Zaid’s family.

Zaid’s father, the sole breadwinner of the family, worked in a private company and struggled to provide for the family of eleven members. With such a large household to support, he could not afford the expensive surgery Zaid desperately needed. Zaid’s parents felt helpless as they longed to give him the ability to hear, but their financial constraints became a great obstacle.

Desperate to help their son, Zaid’s parents reached out to Transparent Hands for assistance. We registered Zaid’s case and assured the family that we would arrange the necessary treatment through the support of generous donors.

On December 19, 2024, Zaid was admitted to the National Hospital in Lahore. Under the skilled care of Dr. Naveed Aslam, the cochlear implant surgery was successfully performed, and the internal component was implanted. Zaid remained in the hospital for post-operative monitoring and was discharged the following day in stable condition.

The external component of the implant will be installed after six weeks, allowing Zaid to hear for the first time in his life. Following this, he will begin speech therapy sessions to develop his language and communication skills.
