With Your Support, Maryam’s Heart Defects Were Repaired
Maryam Bibi Khair Muhammad's Story
Maryam Bibi, a 14-year-old girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, had struggled with breathlessness and chest discomfort since birth. While performing mild to moderate physical activity, she often experienced fatigue, and her skin turned blue due to a lack of oxygen. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a local hospital, where the doctor conducted multiple tests. After a thorough evaluation, Maryam was diagnosed with moderate secundum Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The doctor advised TOF repair surgery to prevent further complications and improve her quality of life. Unfortunately, the cost of this life-saving surgery was far beyond what Maryam’s family could afford.
Maryam lived in a mud house with her five family members. Her father, the sole provider for the family, worked as a daily wage laborer, earning only PKR 15,000 per month. With this limited income, covering household expenses, utility bills, and groceries was already a struggle. The financial burden of the surgery was an overwhelming burden for the family, who were surviving in extreme poverty. In desperate need of help, Maryam’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and requested support for her treatment. Through the generosity of donors, we were able to arrange her surgery at one of our panel hospitals.
On January 26, 2025, Maryam was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore. The surgery was scheduled for January 27, 2025, and Dr. Salman successfully performed her TOF repair surgery. She remained under medical supervision for three days, receiving post-operative care to ensure a smooth recovery. On January 30, 2025, she was discharged from the hospital in stable condition.
Maryam’s parents expressed their heartfelt gratitude by saying:
“We were scared to lose our daughter. But this surgery has given her a second chance at life. Seeing her breathe freely and smile again fills our hearts with joy. We are immensely thankful to everyone who supported us during this difficult time.”
Today, Maryam is on the path to recovery. She can now play, grow, and lead a healthier life, free from the limitations she once faced. Her family is overjoyed and they extend their sincere appreciation to you. Your generosity has truly changed Maryam’s life for the better.
