In the enchanting district of Shaheed Benazirabad in Sindh, a little princess named Urwa Batool embarked on a remarkable journey of triumph and resilience. At the tender age of 3, Urwa faced the challenge of sensorineural hearing loss, a condition that created barriers in her path to experiencing the world of sound. Determined to help her overcome this obstacle, Urwa’s family sought the expert care of the Institute of Medical Sciences in Gambat.
On the 7th of December 2023, Urwa was admitted to the hospital, marking the beginning of a life-changing chapter. Under the skilled hands of the esteemed surgeon, Dr. Maqbool Ahmed, Urwa underwent a groundbreaking right-sided cochlear implant surgery. The procedure utilized a cutting-edge cochlear implant, meticulously designed to restore hearing function in individuals with sensorineural hearing loss.
The surgery proved to be a resounding success, opening the doors to a world of sound for Urwa. With attentive care and a brief period of recovery, Urwa’s condition improved significantly. On the 8th of December 2023, filled with gratitude and joy, Urwa and her family celebrated her discharge from the hospital, embracing a future filled with endless possibilities and newfound auditory delights.
While the surgery had granted Urwa the gift of hearing, her journey towards complete restoration was still ongoing. After four weeks, an external component of the cochlear implant was installed, further enhancing Urwa’s ability to perceive sound. To maximize the benefits of the implant and foster effective communication skills, Urwa embarked on a comprehensive speech therapy program. Led by dedicated professionals, her speech therapy sessions were tailored to address her unique needs, unlocking her potential for effective communication.
