Tanjeela Can Hear Her Loved Ones’ Voices Now
Tanjeela Bibi's Story
Tanjeela, a 3-year-old girl from Shadad Kot, Sindh, was suffering from the inability to hear the sounds around her. When other children turned at the sound of a car or laughter, Tanjeela stayed still. Worried, her parents took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed her with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery and explained that without this implant, Tanjeela would struggle with speech and social interactions for the rest of her life.
Tanjeela lived in a small mud house with her four family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked long hours as a farmer but earned just PKR 20,000 per month. With this meager monthly income, they could fulfill their basic needs only. The cost of the cochlear implant surgery was far beyond their reach, leaving them in despair about Tanjeela’s future. Knowing they couldn’t afford the surgery on their own, her parents reached out to Transparent Hands for help. Moved by their plight, we immediately took on Tanjeela’s case.
On 29th August 2024, Tanjeela was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on 30th August 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed skillfully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. After receiving post-operative care and critical monitoring, Tanjeela was discharged in satisfactory condition on 31st August 2024.
Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. To navigate a new and vibrant world filled with sounds, Tanjeela is receiving speech therapy sessions. Her parents were overjoyed and they said with teary eyes:
“We are so grateful for the kindness we’ve received. Tanjeela can hear our voices now, and it’s the greatest gift we could have ever imagined. Thank you to everyone who helped us. You have changed our daughter’s life and given her the greatest gift.”
Tanjeela is now adapting to the world of sounds and her future holds endless possibilities for her. Tnajeela’s family is deeply thankful to you for your generosity, which has changed her life.
