Rahmeen Fatima Can Hear Now
Rahmeen Fatima's Story
Rahmeen Fatima, a 3-year-old girl from Sukkur, had lived in a silent world since birth. Responding to her name and listening to the sounds of toys that make noise was beyond her abilities. Concerned about her condition, her parents took her to a local hospital and received a consultation from a doctor. After a comprehensive examination, the doctor diagnosed her with congenital sensorineural hearing loss and recommended cochlear implant surgery. This diagnosis was shocking for her parents, as they didn’t have enough money to pay for Rahmeen’s surgery.
Rahmeen lived in a small brick house with her parents. Her father, the sole provider for the family, was a government employee. His meager monthly income was insufficient to cover even their basic living expenses. Rahmeen’s family faced financial limitations that made the surgery feel like an impossible dream. With no savings or other resources, they feared Rahmeen would grow up in silence, unable to experience the sounds in the world around her. During this difficult time, Rahmeen’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked us for help. After listening to their concerns, we promptly registered her case.
On 3rd October 2024, Rahmeen was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on 4th October 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant, bringing a wave of joy to Rahmeen’s family. She was hospitalized for two days and received post-operative care. On 5th October 2024, she was discharged in satisfactory condition from the hospital.
The external component of the cochlear implant was installed six weeks after the surgery. Rahmeen now receives speech therapy sessions. This is how she can learn to distinguish between sounds and words and fully learn language skills. Rahmeen’s parents expressed their heartfelt thanks as follows:
“We will forever be grateful to those who made this possible. You’ve given our daughter a gift that we could never have afforded on our own. Thank you for allowing her to hear us and explore new opportunities.”
Your generosity has changed Rahmeen’s life and brought boundless happiness to his family. Her family is truly grateful.
