Naseem Akhter's Story

Naseem Akhtar, a 49-year-old woman from Karachi, had been experiencing upper right abdominal pain for seven months. The persistent discomfort, coupled with nausea and digestive issues, often left her unable to carry out her daily activities. As her condition worsened, she finally decided to seek medical advice. Her doctor conducted a series of diagnostic tests including an ultrasound scan and diagnosed Naseem with Cholelithiasis. To relieve her pain and prevent further complications, the doctor advised a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond what her family could afford.

Naseem lived in a small rented house with her husband and three children. Her husband, the sole provider for the family, worked as a daily wage laborer, earning only PKR 30,000 per month. With this limited income, they struggled to meet their household expenses, making it impossible to arrange money for her surgery. After receiving post-operative care, Naseem was discharged in stable condition on January 14, 2025.
