Meena’s Life Has Changed After Her Hysterectomy

Meena, a 42-year-old resident of Karachi, had been experiencing severe abdominal pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and persistent fatigue for two years. These symptoms significantly impacted her ability to manage household responsibilities and care for her family. Despite receiving some medical care, her condition did not improve. Eventually, Meena consulted a specialist who diagnosed her with uterine fibroids and recommended a hysterectomy as the definitive treatment. However, its cost was far beyond what Meena could afford.

Meena’s husband passed away ten years ago. Since then, Meena had been living at her father’s rented house with her two children. Due to her husband’s death, she faced immense financial hardships. Meena worked as a seamstress and earned just PKR 8000 per month. This income was insignificant to even cover their household expenses. Meena’s much-needed surgery was expensive and she couldn’t afford to pay for it. Struggling with worsening symptoms and no means to afford treatment, Meena reached out to Transparent Hands for help. On 15th November 2024, Meena was admitted to the Murshid Hospital in Karachi. Her hysterectomy was successfully performed by an expert surgeon, Dr. Farkhanda Saeed. Meena received post-operative care and was discharged in stable condition on 18th November 2024.
