Haniel’s Heart Defect has been Corrected
Haniel Sunil's Story
Haniel Sunil, a 3-year-old boy from Lahore, had been suffering from shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. Haniel was underweight and not growing properly like other kids. Any mild to moderate physical activity used to leave him gasping for air. His parents came to know about his condition when he was one year old. They took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After a comprehensive examination and evaluation, the doctor diagnosed him with a large Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and tiny Patent Ductus Ateriosus (PDA). To repair the defects in his heart, the doctor advised ASD closure surgery. However, Haniel’s family couldn’t afford the surgery.
Haniel lives in a small brick house with his four family members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, is an employee at a hair salon and earns just PKR 20,000 per month. With this insufficient monthly income, they were hardly managing the utility bills along with groceries and other living expenses. Affording to pay for the surgery was significantly challenging for them. During this time of need, Transparent Hands stepped in to help Haniel. Through the support of our donors, we were able to arrange surgery for Haniel.
On 7th June 2024, Haniel was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. His surgery took place on 8th June 2024. Dr. Salman Shah carefully managed his case and skillfully performed his ASD closure surgery. After receiving post-operative care and critical monitoring, Haniel recovered and was discharged in a satisfactory condition on 10th June 2024.
Haniel’s parents described their happiness as follows:
“With his every heartbeat, we find relief. Thanks for your help. Haniel can thrive now without any obstacles. His journey was tough, but you were there to support him. Your love and support gave him a second chance at life. We are grateful to you for changing our son’s life.”
With successful ASD closure surgery, Haniel is now able to play, grow, and learn like other kids. He will never miss out on opportunities to excel in life. We are immensely thankful to the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation and the donors like you who showed compassion and contributed for Haniel’s life-saving surgery.
