Farida Underwent Radiation Therapy
Farida Yaqoob's Story
Farida Yaqoob, a 63-year-old resident of Lahore, endured a difficult battle with a non-healing ulcer in the right side of her oral cavity. After two months of uncertainty, a biopsy revealed she had squamous cell carcinoma. During this challenging time, the support from Transparent Hands donors was a beacon of hope for her.
In December, Farida underwent a crucial surgery—tumor resection with neck dissection. This procedure was pivotal in her fight against cancer, aiming to alleviate her physical suffering and restore hope to her life.
Following the surgery, Farida’s doctor recommended adjuvant radiation therapy to ensure a complete recovery, maximize her chances of long-term remission, and prevent the cancer from recurring. However, faced with overwhelming responsibilities and financial constraints, Farida was unable to afford the radiation therapy costs.
Once again, Transparent Hands stepped in to help. Recognizing the urgency of her situation, they quickly mobilized resources and initiated a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of her treatment. Thanks to the generosity of numerous donors, the campaign was successful.
Farida received the course of necessary adjuvant radiation therapy sessions at the Combined Military Hospital in Lahore which started on February 16, 2024. This essential treatment targets any remaining cancer cells to reduce the risk of recurrence. Farida is deeply thankful to Transparent Hands and all the donors who played a critical role in her journey to recovery. Their support provided not only the needed medical care but also hope, relief, and a chance for a healthier future.
With the successful completion of her radiation therapy, she now looks towards a hopeful future. This vital treatment has not only addressed the immediate threat of cancer but has also significantly increased her chances of long-term health and recovery. Farida is filled with renewed strength and optimism, ready to embrace the next chapter of her life with gratitude and resilience.
