Erum Mumtaz Got Rid of Her Abdominal Pain
Erum Mumtaz's Story
Erum Mumtaz, a 31-year-old woman from Karachi, had been suffering from pain in her right upper abdomen, accompanied by nausea and vomiting for one year. She also had indigestion, especially for fatty meals. She was receiving symptomatic treatment but the relief was temporary only. After suffering for a while, she decided to receive a consultation from a specialist. After conducting some lab tests and an ultrasound scan, they diagnosed Erum with Cholelithiasis, which refers to the formation of gallstones in the gallbladder. To alleviate her pain and discomfort, the doctor advised laparoscopic cholecystectomy. However, the surgical cost was overwhelming for Erum’s family’s financial reach.
Erum lived in a small rented house with her husband and two children. Erum’s husband, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 30,000 per month. With this meager monthly income, they were already struggling to make ends meet. The burden of medical bills weighed heavily over them as they had no other means to pay for the surgery. That’s when Erum contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help. Moved by her plea, we registered her case.
On 14th May 2024, Erum was admitted to Murshid Hospital in Karachi. The surgery took place on the same day. Dr. Attaullah Roonjho skillfully performed her Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and relieved her pain and discomfort. Erum was hospitalized for three days and received essential care and monitoring. On 16th May 2024, she recovered and was discharged in a stable condition.
Erum shared her emotions as follows:
“I feel extremely happy that the intense pain which I experienced for a long time has gone now. You gave me support when I had nowhere else to turn. I was scared but you helped me get rid of this pain and discomfort. I am thankful for the help I received.”
After the successful operation, Erum began to heal both physically and emotionally. She can now take care of her children and carry out her routine tasks without the continuous fear of pain and discomfort. Erum and her family are immensely grateful to you for helping her.
