Abida Abbas Underwent Modified Radical Mastectomy

Abida Abbas's Story

Abida Abbas, a 47-year-old woman from Sialkot, was suffering from a lump in her right breast. The lump gradually increased in size and a time arrived when she developed a wound over her lump and she experienced the discharge of blood from that wound. She faced trouble while sleeping as her lump was giving her intense pain and discomfort. She finally decided to consult a doctor, who ran some medical tests and diagnosed Abida with right breast carcinoma. Her disease was staged and the doctor advised right-modified radical mastectomy (MRM) – a procedure in which the entire breast is removed along with lymph nodes and some surrounding tissues. However, the surgical cost was beyond Abida’s family’s financial reach.

Abida lives in a one-room rented house with her husband, who works as a daily wage laborer and earns PKR 20,000 monthly. They were struggling to make ends meet along with managing the cost of house rent, utility bills, and groceries. Their financial situation was stretched thin and affording to pay for the costly surgery was overwhelming for them. After struggling for a while Abida learned about Transparent Hands and asked us to register her case.

The day of hope arrived and Abida was admitted to Lahore Care Hospital on 25-07-2024. Her surgery was performed by an experienced surgeon, Dr. Ahmed Fawad on 30-07-2024. The successful procedure filled Abida with an immense sense of gratitude and relief.

During her stay in the hospital, she received critical care and monitoring and was discharged on 02-08-2024. 

Abida said with teary eyes:

“I never imagined I could survive this painful breast cancer. Every day was a battle for me but your support came at the right time as a miracle. I am speechless and can’t thank you enough for my recovery. You have changed my life.”

This surgery played a pivotal role in improving her psychological, physical, and emotional well-being. She can now live a pain-free life and carry out her routine and household chores.
