Kaneez Fatima's Story

Meet Kaneez Fatima, a 1-year-old little girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, who has been battling with breathlessness and chest discomfort since birth. Kaneez is unable to gain weight like other children of her age. Her parents received a medical consultation from a doctor, who diagnosed Kaneez with a Doubly Committed Sub-Arterial Ventricular Septal defect (DCSA-VSD) and pulmonary hypertension. She is suffering from a significantly raised pressure in her lungs. If not treated, it can cause severe complications and even death.

The doctor recommended open-heart surgery for VSD-closure. Kaneez’s parents wish to see their daughter breathe normally without any struggle and discomfort. However, the significant cost of the much-needed surgery is overwhelming for the family. They live in a rented brick house. Kaneez’s father works in a factory and makes PKR 20,000 per month. With this meager monthly income, they cover the rent of the house, which is PKR 6000. Moreover, the family is burdened with a loan of PKR 200,000. Due to their limited resources, they can’t afford the life-saving surgery of their daughter.

In their search for help, the family contacted Transparent Hands.

Kaneez’s father said in despair:

“It breaks my heart to see my little daughter struggling to breathe and not living a joyful life like other children. Every day is a battle for her. She has become weak, as her heart condition limits her growth. I request you to give her a second chance at life. I will be grateful forever.”

Kaneez Fatima's Story

Kaneez Fatima, a 1-year-old girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, had been suffering from breathlessness, chest discomfort, and failure to gain weight since birth. Her frail appearance and persistent symptoms led them to consult a doctor. After performing a thorough examination, the doctor diagnosed Kaneez with a Doubly Committed Sub-Arterial Ventricular Septal Defect (DCSA-VSD) and pulmonary hypertension. The doctor recommended open-heart surgery for VSD closure to resolve her heart issue. However, her family was unable to afford the surgery.

Kaneez lived in a rented brick house with her six family members. Kaneez’s father worked in a factory and made PKR 20,000 per month. He barely managed to meet the family’s basic needs with his limited income. Affording a life-saving surgery for Kaneez was impossible for him. Kaneez’s family’s despair grew as they realized they couldn’t save their daughter on their own. During this time of need, Kaneez’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for assistance. Upon learning about Kaneez’s condition, Transparent Hands registered her case.

On November 3, 2024, Kaneez was admitted to the Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Her surgery was performed by Dr. Asim Khan on November 5, 2024. The procedure went smoothly, and Kaneez remained under post-operative care for eleven days. She was discharged in stable condition on November 16, 2024, bringing immense relief to her worried family.

Kaneez’s parents shared their happiness as follows:

“Our daughter’s health was worsening over time, and we couldn’t do anything to save her. You stepped in and gave her a second chance at life. We will always remain thankful for this incredible act of generosity.”

Kaneez is now healing. She is regaining her strength. Your support has changed her life, turning despair into hope for her family. Her family extends their heartfelt appreciation to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation for making this life-saving surgery possible
