Support Ume Farwa’s Cochlear Implant Surgery
Ume Farwa's Story
Ume Farwa, a 2-year-old bright girl from Khanewal, has been suffering from deafness since birth. Upon noticing her unresponsiveness to sounds, her parents took her to the nearby hospital. Her doctor ran some diagnostic tests and, after evaluating her condition thoroughly, diagnosed her with congenital Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL) and recommended cochlear implant surgery. Unable to hear the voices of her parents and the laughter of other children, she is cut off from experiencing the beauty of the world around her. Simple activities like playing with toys that make noise and responding to her name are beyond her reach. Cochlear implant surgery can give her the ability to hear and change her life, but it’s an expensive procedure that her parents can’t afford.
Without the implant, her ability to speak, hear, and communicate like other children won’t develop. Ume Farwa lives in a three-room brick house with her six family members. Her father is a police officer and has a monthly income of PKR 50,000. He is the only breadwinner in the family. The cost of the cochlear implant surgery exceeds their financial capacity.
Ume Farwa’s family described their grief as follows:
“Her inability to hear brings us overwhelming sadness and disappointment. We wish that she could hear and respond to our voices. We want to see her grow without limitations, but we don’t have enough money to pay for her surgery. Your support can change her life.”
Transparent Hands has registered Ume Farwa’s case and is committed to helping her. The cochlear implant will allow her to communicate effectively with her family and peers. It will open up new opportunities for her education.
