Naheed Asma's Story
Naheed Asma has Osteoarthritis which limits her joint movements and daily activities. She is unable to stand or walk for long periods of time. She is also finding it challenging to carry out her basic tasks like cooking and cleaning. Due to the constant pain and joint stiffness, she feels depressed. We urge you to support Naheed’s Knee Replacement Surgery and help her walk without pain and stiffness.
Naheed Asma, a 52-year-old resident of Sahiwal, has been suffering from pain and swelling in her legs for the last 13 years. Upon consultation, the doctor gave her anti-inflammatory medicines. However, the pain and swelling in her knee joints increased with time. Her husband took her to the local hospital. The doctor evaluated her, ran some diagnostic tests, and diagnosed her with Knee Osteoarthritis. It is the most common form of arthritis and is known as degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” arthritis. The doctor advised her to undergo left Total Knee Replacement Surgery. It is a surgical procedure to resurface a knee damaged by arthritis. Metal and plastic parts are used to cap the ends of the bones that form the knee joint, along with the kneecap.
She lives in a small house with her husband and one child. Her husband is the sole earner in the family and makes just PKR 21,000 per month. He has no other source of income. Due to financial constraints, he is unable to afford the surgical expenses. She said in a depressed tone:
“I’m exhausted, anxious, and lonely. The pain is affecting almost every part of my life. I request you all to donate generously for my surgery.”

Naheed Asma's Story
Naheed Asma, a 52-year-old woman from Sahiwal, was suffering from pain and swelling in her left leg. She was unable to bear weight on her legs, making it difficult for her to stand and walk for a long period. Moreover, performing household tasks such as cooking and maintaining her home was challenging for her. She was receiving symptomatic treatment but the relief was only temporary. After suffering for a while, she decided to consult an orthopedic surgeon, who conducted an X-ray and some diagnostic tests and diagnosed Naheed with Bilateral Knee Osteoarthritis. As her left knee was more affected than her right, the doctor recommended Left Total Knee Replacement (TKR) Surgery.
Naheed’s quality of life was badly affected and she desperately needed the surgery. Unfortunately, a significant obstacle was present on her path to recovery - financial constraints. Living in a modest house with her husband and one child, she struggled to make ends meet. Her husband is the sole breadwinner in the family and earns just PKR 21000 per month. With this insufficient monthly income, they were hardly managing the utility bills, groceries, and Naheed’s medical expenses. During this challenging time, Naheed contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help. We listened to her concerns and registered her case.
On 06-08-2024, Naheed was admitted to the Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Lahore. The surgery took place on 07-08-2024. Dr. Saleem Bashir skillfully performed her left total knee replacement surgery. Naheed was hospitalized for four days and received post-operative care and critical monitoring. After a successful recovery, Naheed was discharged on 10-08-2024 with new hope and courage.
Naheed was happy and shared her emotions as follows:
“I couldn’t afford my knee replacement surgery. I was scared and helpless, but your support gave me strength. Every day I feel stronger and more hopeful. I’m pain-free now and can enjoy life again. Your support has lifted my spirits and given me the courage to heal."
The total knee replacement surgery significantly alleviated her pain, allowing her to engage in daily activities with greater ease. Naheed and her husband are extremely happy and extend their immense gratitude to you for turning this distant dream into reality.
