Laviza Shafique, a 23-year-old resident of Bahawalnagar, has suffered shortness of breath, cyanosis, fever, and episodes of chest pain since birth. Her parents recently learned about her critical condition and took her to a cardiologist. After doing some tests, the cardiologist found that she had congenital heart problems, including pulmonary atresia, and a ventricular septal defect (VSD). The cardiac surgeon advised her to undergo a Rastelli operation to give her a chance at a healthy life.

She lives with his parents and three siblings. Her father is the only earner and earns just PKR 25,000 per month. He is not stable enough to pay for the cardiac surgery. He said in despair:

Laviza Shafique, a resilient and determined 23-year-old from Bahawalnagar, had faced numerous obstacles due to her congenital heart problems. From the moment she took her first breath, she experienced the burdens of shortness of breath, cyanosis, fever, and recurring chest pain. However, it was only recently that the true extent of her condition became known when her parents sought the opinion of a skilled cardiologist.

After undergoing a series of tests, the cardiologist delivered a diagnosis that left Laviza and her family heartbroken. She was found to have pulmonary atresia and a ventricular septal defect (VSD), conditions that severely impacted her quality of life. In her childhood, she was operated with open heart surgery for her pulmonary atresia. Now, The cardiologist recommended a Rastelli operation as the best course of action, offering Laviza a glimmer of hope for a healthier future.

With the support of Transparent Hands, she was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital, Lahore. She underwent the complex procedure under the skilled hands of Dr. Asim on 18-08-2023. The redo median sternotomy, Rastelli operation, and VSD closure were meticulously performed, prioritizing Laviza's safety and well-being above all else. Following an eight-day stay in hospital, Laviza was formally discharged and deemed fit to start her path towards improved health and well-being.
