Muhammad Asif's Story
Muhammad Asif, a 47-year-old man from Karachi, has been experiencing right ear discharge for the past year. His condition often leads to significant hearing impairment, making daily communication and social interactions challenging. Due to his reduced quality of life, he is unable to live a healthy life. When he consulted a doctor, Asif got a shocking diagnosis that he suffers from Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) – perforated tympanic membrane with persistent drainage from the middle ear. To alleviate his discomfort and heal his ear issue, his doctor advised multiple procedures, including right mastoidectomy, ossiculoplasty, and tympanoplasty. However, the surgical cost is out of his financial reach.
If his condition is left untreated, it may lead to persistent infection, the potential for cholesteatoma, and complications such as hearing loss. The stress of not knowing how he will afford the procedure is affecting his emotional well-being
Asif lives in a modest rented house with his wife and one daughter. He is the sole provider for his family, works as a daily wage laborer, and makes just PKR 30,000 per month. Their monthly house rent of PKR 10,000 takes up a significant portion of their income. With educational expenses of PKR 7000 for his daughter and utility bills totaling PKR 4000, saving for his medical treatment has become an impossible task. Despite his hard work and determination, Asif is unable to afford the surgery. During this time of need, Asif reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for help.
