Support Abdul Wasay With Cochlear Implant Surgery
Abdul Wasay's Story
Abdul Wasay, a 5-year-old little boy from Rahim Yar Khan, has been living in a world of silence since birth. His parents noticed his unresponsiveness to sounds when he was one year old. Upon consultation with a doctor, Abdul Wasay was diagnosed with Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SNHL). The news of his congenital deafness gave them a huge shock. The doctor advised cochlear implant surgery that will enable him to hear.
Abdul Wasay experiences a lot of challenges due to his inability to hear. He can’t pursue his studies and remains isolated. He can’t enjoy the wonders of sound and languages. He will miss out on many opportunities in the future if he doesn’t undergo cochlear implant surgery. However, there is a significant barrier on his path towards recovery – financial constraints. He lives in a small brick house along with five family members. His father is a teacher, the sole breadwinner, and earns PKR 36,000 per month. The cost of their utility bills is PKR 6000 per month. Due to their financial hardships, they cannot afford to pay for the costly cochlear implant surgery.
They heard about Transparent Hands and contacted us for help.
Abdul Wasay’s parents said with grief:
“We are heartbroken to see our only child battling with this congenital deafness. We are waiting for the day when he will listen to us and respond to our voices. His hearing disability is casting a shadow on his future. We humbly request donors to support us in this time of need.”

Abdul Wasay's Story
Abdul Wasay, a 5-year-old boy from Rahim Yar Khan, was suffering from congenital deafness. He could not hear the sounds around him, and his silent world isolated and frustrated him. Moreover, it affected his cognition and caused delays in developmental milestones. Upon noticing his condition when he was one year old, his parents took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After running some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). To enable him to hear his loved ones’ voices, the doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery. Unfortunately, the surgical cost was overwhelming for Abdul Wasay’s family.
Abdul Wasay’s day-to-day activities and his potential were badly affected by his inability to interact with people. He couldn’t receive opportunities like other kids of his age and was missing a major blessing in his life. His parents longed to give him the ability to hear, but their financial constraints made it impossible for them to do so. His father is a teacher and the sole breadwinner in the family. His insufficient monthly income was just enough to cover their basic needs only. During this dark moment, Abdul Wasay’s family learned about Transparent Hands and asked us for help. We listened to their concerns and swiftly registered Wasay’s case.
On 26th July 2024, Abdul Wasay was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery was scheduled for 27th July 2024. His operation was skillfully performed by Dr. Maqbool Ahmed and he fitted the internal component of the cochlear implant. The surgery was a remarkable success, and after recovery, Abdul Wasay was discharged on 28th July 2024.
Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. To achieve another milestone in his communication and language development, Abdul Wasay now attends regular speech therapy sessions. His parents expressed their gratitude as follows:
“We can’t describe our happiness when our son responded to our voices for the first time in life. He spent five years in silence, but now he can explore the world and live, play, and grow like other children. We are deeply grateful to you for your help.”
The cochlear implant surgery has enabled Abdul Wasay to enjoy different sounds around him. Now he will never miss out on any opportunity and will continue to excel in life. His surgery was made possible just because of you. Thank you for your generous support!
