Save Muhammad Hamza’s Fragile Heart
Muhammad Hamza's Story
Muhammad Hamza, a courageous 9-year-old boy from Lahore, has been battling cyanosis and difficulty in breathing since birth. His condition has severely impacted his quality of life, hindering him from enjoying the simple joys of childhood. Upon consultation with medical professionals, Hamza was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and Major Aortopulmonary Collateral Arteries (MAPCA). The recommended course of action is Angiography followed by total correction surgery, which holds the key to transforming his life.
Hamza resides in a rented house in Lahore with his mother and three siblings. Tragically, his father passed away two years ago, leaving his family devastated. Hamza’s mother works tirelessly as a tailor, earning a modest income of PKR 10,000 per month. Despite her best efforts, her earnings are not sufficient to cover the high cost of Hamza’s surgical expenses. The burden becomes even heavier as she struggles to manage daily expenses, grocery bills, utility bills (PKR 1,000), school fees (PKR 1,000), and house rent (PKR 4,000). To make ends meet, she had to take a loan of PKR 50,000, leaving her in a state of helplessness.

Muhammad Hamza's Story
Muhammad Hamza, a 9-year-old boy from Lahore, had been suffering from breathlessness and chest discomfort since birth. Hamza was not gaining weight properly. Simple activities that other children enjoyed, like running or playing, left him gasping for breath. His skin often turned blue, a terrifying sign that his body was not getting enough oxygen. His parents consulted a doctor, who conducted some medical tests and diagnosed Hamza with a severe congenital heart defect known as Tetralogy of Fallot with Major Aortopulmonary Collateral Arteries (TOF-MAPCA). The doctor advised angiography followed by open-heart surgery for total correction. However, the significant cost of the surgery was overwhelming for Hamza’s family.
Hamza’s father passed away a few years ago. His mother works as a seamstress and earns just PKR 10,000 monthly. He lives in a small rented house with his three family members. The family is surviving in extreme poverty, and their insufficient monthly income covers their basic needs only. Affording the life-saving surgery was impossible for his mother.
A glimmer of hope arose when a neighbor told her about Transparent Hands. Understanding the critical nature of his situation, we swiftly registered Hamza’s case.
On June 11, 2024, Hamza was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital Lahore. The surgery was scheduled for the following day, June 12, 2024. Dr. Asim Khan skillfully performed the delicate open-heart surgery. After five days of post-operative care, Hamza was discharged from the hospital on June 16, 2024.
The surgery was a success, and Hamza’s heart was finally able to function properly. His mother, who had lived in fear of losing his son, was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude.
Hamza’s mother expressed her gratitude as follows:
“Hamza’s heart surgery was like a distant dream for me. Every day, I prayed for a miracle but nothing happened. When I was about to lose my hope, your support gave me strength. I don’t know how to express my gratitude but your help was like a miracle for my son. My prayers were answered and I am speechless for it. Thanks for being there for my son and giving him a new life.”
Hamza’s journey to recovery marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, one filled with hope, health, and the simple joys of childhood. Hamza can now look forward to a bright and happy future. Your contributions, alongside the support of Pakistan Children's Heart Foundation, transformed Hamza’s life. Thank you.
