Save Hadia Atif’s Life with Heart Surgery

Hadia Atif's Story
Hadia Atif, a 3-year-old girl from Lahore, has been struggling with health issues since the day she was born. Her parents noticed that she often gasped for breath, and her body was unable to keep up with even simple movements. As she grew, her condition did not improve. She remained weak, frequently falling ill with chest infections and struggled with breathlessness.
Worried and desperate for answers, her parents took her for a medical check-up. After a series of tests, the doctor diagnosed her with a serious congenital heart defect Pulmonary Atresia (PA) with Intact Ventricular Septum (IVS) and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). This condition restricts proper blood flow, making it difficult for her heart to function effectively. Hadia’s doctor has advised Open-Heart Surgery (CP Shunt) to improve her condition. However, the cost of the surgery is overwhelming for her family as they are facing financial hardships.
Without surgery, Hadia’s condition will worsen, leading to severe breathing difficulties and potential heart failure. Her ability to grow and engage in daily activities will remain limited. Timely intervention is necessary to save her life.
Hadia’s father earns just PKR 37,500 per month. He works hard to support his family, but the cost of Hadia’s surgery is far beyond his reach. They live in a small house, spending PKR 2000 on utility bills and PKR 3000 on their children’s education. They have no savings for medical expenses. No parent should have to choose between providing for their family and saving their child’s life. However, this is the heartbreaking reality Hadia’s parents are facing.
Hadia’s parents said in despair:
“We watch our little girl struggle for every breath, and it hurts us a lot. We wish we could take away her pain, but we can’t. All we can do is pray for a miracle. We are asking for help. Please save our daughter.”

Hadia Atif's Story
Hadia Atif, a 3-year-old girl from Lahore, had faced health struggles since birth. Her parents noticed early on that Hadia often gasped for breath and struggled with even simple movements. As she grew, her condition did not improve, and she remained weak. She frequently suffered from chest infections and severe breathlessness that limited her daily activities. Concerned and desperate for answers, Hadia’s parents took her for a comprehensive medical check-up. After a series of detailed tests, the doctor diagnosed her with serious congenital heart defects, including Pulmonary Atresia (PA) with Intact Ventricular Septum (IVS) and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). To improve Hadia’s condition and give her a chance to have a healthier life, the doctor advised an Open-Heart Surgery (CP Shunt). However, the cost of this life-saving procedure was overwhelming for Hadia’s family, who were already facing significant financial hardships.
Hadia’s father is an employee at a private company, earning only PKR 37,500 per month to support the family. They live in a small house and hardly manage their living expenses. Despite his hard work, the family’s limited income makes it impossible for them to afford the expensive surgery for Hadia. When Hadia’s family reached out to Transparent Hands, her case was registered promptly. The generosity of our donors enabled us to arrange surgery for Hadia at one of the hospitals on our panel.
On April 7, 2025, Hadia was admitted to Ittefaq Hospital in Lahore. Dr. Asim Khan successfully performed the CP Shunt procedure on April 9, 2025. She received excellent post-operative care and was discharged in stable condition on April 13, 2025.
Hadia’s parents expressed their emotions as follows:
“Watching Hadia struggle with every breath made us feel helpless. After the surgery, she now has a chance to live a healthier life. We are immensely grateful to you for saving Hadia’s life. We will never forget your generosity.”
After the surgery, Hadia’s breathing has improved significantly, and she is gaining strength day by day. Her family is optimistic as she begins to enjoy a more active and healthier childhood.
Hadia’s family is thankful to you and the Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF) for helping them during their difficult time.
