Muhammad Farhan's Story

Muhammad Farhan, a 7-year-old boy from Dera Ghazi Khan, has been experiencing breathlessness, chest discomfort, and fatigue since birth. He is unable to gain a healthy weight, making him look frail. His parents took him to a local hospital. The doctor performed a thorough examination and diagnosed Farhan with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) – a heart condition characterized by four heart abnormalities. Farhan underwent Modified Blalock-Taussig Shunt (MBTS) surgery in February 2020 to build him up for the subsequent surgery. Now he is growing up but still experiences similar symptoms. On a follow-up visit, his doctor recommended a redo-open heart surgery for TOF repair now. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond his family’s reach.

While playing with his friends, Farhan’s skin and lips often turn blue, and he becomes breathless and tired. Delaying the surgery means that Farhan may face life-threatening complications and will not be able to beat the disease.

Farhan lives in a small house with his five family members. He has two younger siblings. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, is a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 20,000 per month. They are surviving in extreme poverty and it’s hard for them to manage utility bills, and expenses for groceries. Farhan’s life-saving heart surgery is expensive and they simply can’t afford to pay for it. Farhan’s parents feel helpless. During this time of need, Farhan’s parents reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for help.

Farhan’s parents said with teary eyes:

“Spending each day with discomfort is extremely challenging for our son. We wish for a day when he would be able to breathe normally. His life is at risk and we don’t have enough money to afford the surgery. Please save our son’s precious life.”
