Two years old, Safa Yasir, a resident of Faisalabad has been suffering from palpitations. After her parents noticed that their daughter Safa is having difficulty in breathing, they took her for consultation. Upon consultation, she was diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect. The doctors advised her to undergo an ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) closure. This procedure involves open heart surgery in which the defect between the upper two chambers of the heart is closed.
Her father’s monthly income is PKR. 12,000 and it is merely enough to support the family of five members. He cannot afford the hefty cost of the surgery. Her father told us :
“She is a little kid and she can’t even go running in the fields. She has been suffering from the illnesses of a 60 year old at the age of 2 years. I just want her to be like a normal child of her age.”

Safa Yasir's Story
Safa Yasir, a two-year-old girl, underwent a number of tests after she was born. These tests were conducted because she was suffering from weakness and failure to gain weight. Her ECHO test report revealed that she had a large atrial septal defect (ASD). The cardiologist advised her to have open heart surgery for ASD closure. For this purpose, Safa Yasir was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital and her ASD closure surgery was performed by Dr. Faiz Rasool on 07.12.2021. She stayed in the hospital for three days and was discharged in a stable condition. Safa Yasir’s condition has improved a lot after the surgery.
