Sadia Nazir Awaits Thyroidectomy to Overcome Pain
Sadia Nazir's Story
Sadia Nazir, a 17-year-old young girl from Lahore, has been suffering from a painful lump on the front of her neck for many years. Sadia has had Pendred syndrome since birth. It is a condition in which a person simultaneously has sensorineural hearing loss and Goiter. Pendred syndrome has been a constant part of Sadia’s life. Now her lump is progressively increasing in size and giving her extreme discomfort. She received a consultation from a doctor, who, after conducting some diagnostic tests and an ultrasound scan, diagnosed Sadia with Multinodular Goiter (MNG) – the presence of multiple nodules in a thyroid gland. The doctor recommended Subtotal Thyroidectomy. Unfortunately, Sadia’s family cannot afford the significant cost of the surgery.
If Sadia doesn’t undergo the surgery, her lump can continue to grow and she may have a risk of developing cancer. Sadia is a student and is unable to fully enjoy the perks of her teenage years as her illness always makes her uncomfortable. Moreover, she faces difficulty while swallowing and speaking.
Sadia lives in a modest three-room rented house with her thirteen family members. She has three siblings and they are also affected by Pendred syndrome. Her father and brothers are daily wage laborers. Their household monthly income is insufficient to cover the utility bills, house rent, and educational expenses. To make matters worse, the family is burdened with a loan of PKR 300,000. Affording the surgery is simply beyond their financial means.
Sadia’s parents expressed their heartfelt plea as follows:
“We want to give our daughter a healthy life but we don’t have enough means to pay for her surgery. She is in constant pain and discomfort. Please help our daughter in undergoing the surgery.”
The thyroidectomy surgery is necessary for Sadia as it will allow her to focus on her education and improve her quality of life. She will be able to thrive in life without any obstacles.

This rare condition causes a combination of sensorineural hearing loss and the development of a goiter. Sadia’s life has been affected by this syndrome for a long time, but in recent years, her condition worsened. Her lump on the front of her neck progressively increased in size.
