Maryam Yaar Muhammad's Story

Maryam Yaar Muhammad, a 66-year-old widow from Hyderabad, has been struggling with blurry vision in her right eye for the past five years. Once, she used to manage household tasks easily. However, now even recognizing faces and moving around the house has become difficult for her. Her worsening vision has taken away her independence, leaving her feeling helpless. Hoping for a cure, Maryam visited a doctor. After undergoing some medical tests, Maryam was diagnosed with a cataract in her right eye. The doctor advised her to undergo Phaco + IOL surgery. However, the surgical cost is overwhelming for her family.

Without the surgery, her condition will continue to worsen. It may lead to complete blindness in her right eye. The thought of losing her vision fills Maryam’s heart with fear and despair.

Maryam is a widow and lives with her only daughter, who is unmarried. Her daughter works as a sewing machine operator in a company, earning just PKR 20,000 per month. They live in a small rented house, struggling to make ends meet with a monthly rent of PKR 10,000. After paying PKR 2500 for utility bills and covering basic living expenses, they are left with barely anything to save. The cost of Maryam’s surgery is simply out of reach for them. Her daughter does everything she can to provide for her mother. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot gather the amount needed for the surgery.

With a heavy heart, Maryam shared her plea as follows:

“My vision is worsening, and I feel trapped in darkness. My daughter works hard to support us, but she cannot afford my treatment. I don’t want to be a burden on her, but I also don’t want to lose my sight completely. Please help me get this surgery so I can see the world again.”
