Naseem Akhter's Story
Naseem Akhtar, a 52-year-old woman from Karachi, has been suffering from pain and discomfort in her upper right abdominal region for the past year. What started as mild discomfort soon turned into an unbearable condition, especially after meals. She also experiences nausea and vomiting. Her condition has made it difficult for her to carry out her daily tasks. Concerned about her condition, she consulted a doctor at a hospital. After a detailed evaluation, the doctor diagnosed her with cholelithiasis—gallstones causing inflammation and pain. To prevent further complications and relieve her pain, her doctor recommended cholecystectomy. However, the cost of the surgery is out of her financial reach.
If left untreated, Naseem’s condition will only worsen. The pain may become more frequent and severe, making it even harder for her to lead a normal life. She may face complications like gallbladder infection or blockage.
Naseem Akhter lives in a modest rented house with her husband and seven school-going children. Her husband, the sole breadwinner in the family, is a daily wage laborer and makes just PKR 25000 per month. Out of this meager income, PKR 11,000 is spent on house rent, PKR 4000 on utility bills, and PKR 5000 on their children’s education. Additionally, the significant loan of PKR 400,000 has added to their financial burden. Naseem’s financial situation is stretched thin and due to these circumstances, it is challenging for her to pay for her much-needed surgery. During this difficult time, Naseem reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for help.
