Cheeman Bibi, a 67-year-old woman from Lahore, is experiencing cloudy and dim vision. She went to a doctor to get her eyes checked and was diagnosed with a cataract in her right eye. Cheeman has lived a long life filled with memories and joys. However, now her life has become full of struggles due to her diminished eyesight. She is unable to see her loved one’s smiles. Not only does she struggle to walk around the home without support but also faces difficulty in carrying out her routine tasks. Her condition has made her depressed, frustrated, and isolated.

Her doctor advised Phaco + IOL surgery to restore her vision. Cheeman longs to see her surroundings and wants to spend her remaining years happily. Unfortunately, the financial strain of the much-needed surgery is overwhelming for her family.

Cheeman lives in a small brick house with her four children. Her four sons are daily wage laborers and have a combined income of PKR 40000. This income is barely sufficient to cover the cost of their utility bills, groceries, and other daily living expenses. Despite their immense love for their mother, Cheeman’s children can’t afford her life-changing surgery. Her family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked for help.

Cheeman Bibi said with teary eyes:

Cheeman Bibi, a 67-year-old woman from Lahore, was suffering from short-sightedness and blurry vision. Upon consultation with a doctor, she was diagnosed with a cataract in her right eye. To restore her vision, the doctor recommended Phaco+IOL surgery. However, affording the cost of the surgery was beyond her family’s financial abilities as they were already facing financial hardships. They have a meager monthly income and they live in a modest home. Cheeman’s life was badly affected by her visual impairment. She used to bump into things while walking and carrying out routine tasks became significantly challenging. She desperately needed the surgery but was unable to pay for it. If left untreated, the cataract could have become worse and increased the risk of glaucoma and even blindness. During this time of need, she contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help. After listening to her concerns, we promptly registered the case. Her right Phaco + IOL surgery was performed at Life Hospital Lahore.
