Rani Bibi's Story

Rani, a 27-year-old woman from Karachi, has been suffering from left-sided thyroid swelling and pain for three months. She is facing difficulty in swallowing, breathing, and speaking. The condition has badly affected her quality of life. She was receiving symptomatic treatment but couldn’t get relief. She consulted with an endocrinologist and underwent some diagnostic tests. Upon evaluation, she was diagnosed with Left Lobe Thyroid Nodules. Thyroid nodules are fluid-filled lumps that can be cancerous or benign. The doctor recommended Thyroidectomy surgery (Thyroid Lobectomy) to treat her condition.

Rani is a mother of five children and faces significant challenges while doing household tasks. Due to her condition, she can’t take care of her children and is unable to sleep properly. She desperately wants the treatment, but due to her financial constraints, she can’t undergo the procedure on her own. She lives in a 2-marla brick house. Rani’s husband is a daily wage laborer and the sole breadwinner in the entire family. He brings in just PKR 20,000 monthly. The utility bills amounting to PKR 8000 put additional financial strain on the family. The cost of the surgery is overwhelming for them as they face economic hardships.

With hope in her heart, she reached out to Transparent Hands and requested financial assistance. Rani said in despair:

“I want to get relief from this disease as it is impacting my life and giving me intense pain and discomfort. My husband works to the point of exhaustion but is still unable to pay for my surgery. I request you to please support me.”

Rani Bibi's Story

Rani, a 27-year-old woman from Karachi, had been experiencing left-sided thyroid pain and swelling for the past three months. She received symptomatic treatment but got temporary relief only. She went to a local hospital and consulted a specialist, who conducted some lab tests and an ultrasound scan and diagnosed Rani with left lobe thyroid nodules. Her condition affected her ability to breathe and swallow. Due to persistent discomfort, her illness left her bedridden occasionally. To treat her condition, the doctor advised thyroidectomy. However, the cost of the surgery was overwhelming for Rani.

Rani lived in a modest house with her husband and five children. Her husband, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a daily wage laborer and earned just PKR 20,000 monthly. This income was insufficient to support five children, in addition to managing the household expenses. Paying for Rani’s much-needed surgery was simply impossible for him. With hope in her heart, Rani turned to Transparent Hands and asked us for help. Moved by her plea, we registered her case.

The life-altering day arrived and Rani was admitted to Murshid Hospital in Karachi on 23rd August 2024. The surgery took place on the same day. His thyroidectomy was performed by an experienced surgeon, Dr. Paras Nadeem. After receiving post-operative care and essential medications, Rani was discharged from the hospital in stable condition on 24th August 2024.

Rani was overwhelmed with happiness and she said:

“I can’t thank you enough for the help I received. Now I can take care of my children and sleep properly. You extended your helping hand to us when we had no one around. Every day I feel stronger and more hopeful.”

The surgery that once seemed out of reach became a reality just because of you. Through this successful surgery, she can now have a pain-free life. Rani and her family are immensely grateful to you for making a real difference in her life. Your generosity changed her life.
