Ayesha Iqbal's Story

Ayesha Iqbal, a 10-year-old girl from Chiniot, has been experiencing breathlessness, chest discomfort, palpitations, and fatigue since birth. Ayesha is not growing properly and faces a delay in her physical and cognitive milestones. Her parents received a medical consultation from a doctor who conducted some diagnostic tests. After a thorough examination, Ayesha was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), a heart defect characterized by an abnormal opening in the wall separating the heart’s lower chambers and Right Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction (RVOTO). The doctor advised VSD closure + RVOTO Resection to save her life. However, Ayesha’s family cannot afford the costly procedure.

Ayesha usually remains quiet and avoids interacting and playing with other kids as she becomes tired easily. If she doesn’t undergo the surgery, her heart condition will continue to worsen and become life-threatening. She will not be able to beat the disease and ultimately lose her life.

Ayesha is a student, living in a 5-marla mud house with her nine family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and brings in just PKR 20,000. Ayesha’s brother is suffering from thalassemia. The family has already spent a significant amount of money on Ayesha and her brother’s medical expenses. They have no savings left to cover the cost of her cardiac surgery. During this challenging time, Ayesha’s parents turned to Transparent Hands and contacted us for help.

Ayesha’s parents said in despair:

“Ayesha’s future will remain uncertain if she doesn’t get the necessary treatment. It breaks our hearts when we see our daughter struggle to breathe and survive each day of her life. Her life has become miserable. Please help her.”

For Ayesha, this heart surgery is not just a medical procedure, it is a matter of life and death. This surgery is essential for her survival, allowing her to lead a healthy and active life. We appeal to you to help Ayesha in this time of need.
