Let Urwa Embrace the Power of Hearing
Urwa Bibi's Story
Urwa, 3-year old resident of Larkana, has been facing a remarkable challenge since the day she was born – a profound hearing loss that has silently robbed her of the ability to fully engage with the world around her.
For the first year of her life, Urwa’s condition went undiagnosed, until her concerned parents finally took her to the nearest hospital, seeking answers. There, the doctors delivered a life-altering diagnosis – Urwa required a cochlear implant, a sophisticated surgical procedure that could potentially restore her hearing.
However, the financial burden of this treatment quickly became an insurmountable obstacle for Urwa’s family. Her father, the sole breadwinner, earns a modest 35,000 rupees per month, a sum that barely covers the basic necessities for Urwa, her five siblings, and their elderly parents, all residing in a modest village home.
Adding to the family’s woes, Urwa’s father is also saddled with a loan of 50,000 rupees, further straining their limited resources. “We want nothing more than to see our daughter regain her hearing, but the cost of the surgery is simply beyond our means,” the father expressed with deep anguish.
Tragically, Urwa’s story is all too common in the rural regions of Sindh, where access to specialized medical care remains a luxury beyond the reach of many. Yet, her family’s resilience and their unwavering love for their daughter know no bounds.
Through the support of Transparent Hands, Urwa can undergo the life-altering cochlear implant surgery, which will open up a world of sound and connection that she has never known. This transformative procedure has the power to not only restore her hearing but also unlock a future filled with endless opportunities.

Urwa Bibi's Story
Urwa, a 3-year-old girl from Larkana, had been unable to hear the sounds around her since birth. Urwa couldn’t explore the world like other kids of her age. She had never heard her parents’ soothing voices. Her parents learned about her condition when she was one year old. Concerned about her, they took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After conducting some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed Urwa with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and recommended cochlear implant surgery. However, the cost of the surgery was beyond her family’s financial reach.
Urwa lived in a small mud house with her eight family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked as a daily wage laborer and earned just PKR 35000 per month. This monthly income was insufficient to cover even the basic necessities for Urwa, her five siblings, and their elderly parents. The significant cost of the surgery was overwhelming for Urwa’s family. Due to their financial constraints, they couldn’t afford to pay for the surgery. During this time of need, Urwa’s family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked us to register her case. After listening to their concerns, we swiftly registered her case.
On 27th July 2024, Urwa was admitted to the GIMS Hospital in Gambat. Her surgery took place on 28th July 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed skillfully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. The surgery was successful and Urwa stayed in the hospital for just one day. After receiving post-operative care, Urwa was discharged in satisfactory condition on 29th July 2024.
Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. To fully learn language and communication skills, Urwa now receives speech therapy sessions. Urwa’s parents shared their emotions as follows:
“We can’t believe Urwa can finally hear us. It’s a miracle made possible by your kindness. We’ll be forever grateful to you. You have changed our daughter’s life.”
Your compassion has opened up the world of sounds for Urwa, giving her a chance to enter a brighter future. Urwa and her family are incredibly grateful to you for your generosity.
