Ali Afnan, a 4-year-old from Waziristan, is trapped in a world of silence. Born with hearing loss, he has never experienced the symphony of sounds that most children take for granted. Ali Afnan’s family, residing in a rented home in a village in Waziristan, sought medical guidance after realizing their son’s hearing impairment when he was just 2 years old. The doctor’s recommendation was clear – a cochlear implant procedure could restore Ali Afnan’s ability to hear, unlocking a realm of possibilities for him.
This transformative surgery involves the implantation of a device that bypasses the damaged parts of the ear, directly stimulating the auditory nerve and enabling sound perception. Ali Afnan’s father, employed in a private job, earns a monthly income of 50,000 rupees, which is the sole source of support for the family of five. However, the financial burden of maintaining a rented home, paying utility bills, and covering school fees for his children leaves little room for the substantial cost of the cochlear implant surgery.
In a heartbreaking moment, Ali Afnan’s father expressed his anguish, saying, “I long to give my son the gift of hearing, to see him engage with the world and connect with his loved ones. But the financial reality we face makes this surgery an impossibility for us.”

Ali Afnan's Story
Ali Afnan, a 4-year-old young boy from Waziristan, KPK, was suffering from sensorineural hearing loss since early childhood. His parents learned about his condition when he was two years old. Concerned about his condition, they consulted a doctor. After some diagnostic tests, his doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery.
However, the financial burden of this crucial surgery was too much for Ali's family. They couldn’t afford the costly procedure. Filled with hope, they approached Transparent Hands, seeking financial assistance to provide him with the life-changing surgery. With the support of our kind-hearted donors, we successfully raised funds for the surgery.
On 07-06-2024, Ali was admitted to GIMS Hospital, where a skilled surgeon, Dr. Maqbool Ahmad, installed the internal component of the cochlear implant. After just one day of hospitalization, Ali was discharged from the hospital. Ali's life is filled with new hope and the promise of a bright future.
After six weeks, the external device for his cochlear implant was installed, marking another significant milestone in gaining the ability to hear. With speech therapy sessions, Ali looks forward to learning many words. He is taking small but significant steps.
His father described his happiness as follows:
