Bakhtawar Majeed's Story

Bakhtawar Majeed, a vibrant 13-year-old girl from the rural village of Dera Ghazi Khan, should be enjoying the carefree days of her teenage years. Yet, her life has been overshadowed by a relentless battle against a complex congenital heart condition that threatens to steal her future.

Bakhtawar’s struggles with breathlessness, chest discomfort, and overwhelming fatigue, even during the most mild physical activities. After a thorough examination by a cardiologist, she was diagnosed with a serious combination of heart defects – Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction (LVOTO), and Left Ventricular Volume Overload (LVVO).

The doctor’s prognosis was clear: Bakhtawar urgently requires VSD closure and subaortic membrane resection surgery to correct these life-threatening issues and give her a chance at a normal, healthy life. Without this intervention, her condition will only continue to deteriorate, putting her at grave risk.

Bakhtawar’s family, however, faces an overwhelming financial burden. She lives in a mud house in the village near Dera Ghazi Khan with her parents and two siblings. Her father, a daily wage laborer, earns a modest monthly income of PKR 28,000, which barely covers the family’s basic expenses, including utility bills, loan payments, and school fees. The cost of the heart surgery, estimated at a significant sum, is simply beyond their means.

Bakhtawar’s father, filled with both hope and despair, pleads for help, saying,

“My daughter’s future hangs by a thread. We are utterly helpless to provide her the care she so desperately needs. I request to support my daughter’s surgery with your generous donations.

Time is of the essence for young Bakhtawar. With your compassionate support, we can ensure that she receives the lifesaving treatment she requires and give her a chance to grow into a healthy, thriving individual, free from the shackles of her heart condition. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make all the difference in Bakhtawar’s journey towards a brighter tomorrow.

Bakhtawar Majeed's Story

Bakhtawar Majeed, a 13-year-old girl from Dera Ghazi Khan, had been experiencing shortness of breath and chest discomfort since birth. Her parents came to know about her condition when she was one year old. They took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who after conducting some medical tests diagnosed Bakhtawar with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction (LVOTO), and Left Ventricular Volume Overload (LVVO). Bakhtawar’s life was filled with hardships as any mild to moderate physical activity left her gasping for air. She used to feel tired and couldn’t gain weight properly. The doctor recommended VSD Closure surgery and subaortic membrane resection.

However, the surgical cost was impossible to bear for Bakhtawar’s family. Bakhtawar lives in a two-room brick house with her five family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and brings in just PKR 28000 per month. With rising living costs, he couldn’t afford the expensive surgery that could save Bakhtawar’s life. Her parents were heartbroken, knowing they couldn’t give their daughter the help she needed. During this time of need, Transparent Hands stepped in to help Bakhtawar. Recognizing the gravity of her condition, we registered her case, assuring her she could have the surgery without waiting for too long. On 8th July 2024, Bakhtawar was admitted to the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. The surgery was scheduled for 9th July 2024. Dr. Faiz Rasool performed the procedure, successfully closing the defects in her heart. Post-surgery, she was hospitalized for five days and received critical care and monitoring. On 13th July 2024, she recovered and was discharged from the hospital. Bakhtawar’s recovery was smooth, and her parents were overjoyed. They said: “Seeing her breathe easily for the first time without struggling is like a dream has come true. You helped us during our time of need. We can never thank you enough for saving our daughter’s life.” Now, Bakhtawar is thriving. She’s gaining weight, her breathing is normal, and she’s free to grow up healthy and strong. Her parents are immensely grateful to you and the Pakistan Children's Heart Foundation for giving their daughter a chance at a bright future. You proved to be a miracle in her time of need.
