Muhammad Hassan's Story

Meet Muhammad Hassan, a brave 5-year-old boy from Kasur, who has been suffering from breathlessness, chest discomfort, and palpitations since birth. His parents consulted a doctor, who, after running some lab tests, diagnosed Hassan with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a condition characterized by four heart defects present since birth. Hassan’s condition has made a profound impact on his quality of life, leaving him weak, tired, and unable to keep up with children of his age. To give Hassan the chance to have a healthy and happy future, the doctor recommended open-heart surgery for total correction. However, the significant cost of the surgery is far beyond his family’s financial reach.

If left untreated, Hassan’s condition will continue to deteriorate. He would face severe complications, including heart failure, arrhythmias, and even sudden death.

Hassan’s body doesn’t get the oxygen it needs, leading to frequent episodes of cyanosis, where his lips and skin turn blue. Hassan’s parents constantly worry about his health as simple activities like playing or even walking leave him breathless and fatigued.

Hassan lives in a two-room brick house with his seven family members. His father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and brings in just PKR 32000 monthly. Moreover, the family is burdened with a loan of PKR 150,000, leaving no room for savings to pay for the surgery. A glimmer of hope arose when a neighbor told them about Transparent Hands. Hassan’s family contacted us and asked for help.

Hassan’s parents said with teary eyes:

“It breaks our hearts to see him so weak. He wants to play and run like other kids, but his heart just can’t keep up. The surgery is expensive and we can’t afford it. Please help our son and save his life.”

The open-heart surgery is necessary to correct the defects in Hassan’s heart. This surgery would allow Hassan to live a normal life, free from the limitations caused by his heart defects.
