Uzma Bibi's Story

Uzma Bibi is a 23-year-old resident of Multan, who is looking forward to the birth of her third child. Uzma’s doctor has advised an elective Cesarean section (C-section) at over 33 weeks of pregnancy because she has had two C-sections already.

Uzma, her husband, and their two children live in a five-marla house in Multan. Her husband is a driver and just earns PKR 36,000 a month. Since Uzma is a housewife, her husband’s income is the only source that can be used to support the family, leaving them in a difficult financial situation.

Because the expense of the procedure exceeds their means, Uzma is concerned that she may need another C-section. The family struggles to pay for necessary medical care because of their low resources, putting Uzma’s and her unborn child’s health at risk.

“I am quite concerned about our family’s financial situation and the approaching delivery. With anxiety in her voice, Uzma said, “We are having financial difficulties, and the idea of not being able to pay for the C-section is heart-wrenching.

Uzma’s situation exemplifies the hardships that man3y families confront in similar situations. Without proper financial assistance, they are also locked in a cycle of uncertainty, unable to prioritize their health or the health of their loved ones.
