Give for Kousar Parveen’s Thyroidectomy
Kousar Parveen's Story
Meet Kousar Parveen, a 67-year-old woman from Rawalpindi, who has been experiencing pain due to swelling in her neck for many years. Her condition progressively worsened over the past two months and is now causing pressure in her neck. Simple activities like eating and breathing have become difficult for her. She went to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who after performing some lab tests and an ultrasound scan diagnosed her with Multinodular goiter (MNG)-an enlarged thyroid gland that contains multiple nodules or bumps. To relieve her pain and discomfort, the doctor advised Near Total Thyroidectomy. However, the cost of the surgery is beyond her financial reach.
Kousar’s life is a constant struggle. Her illness can be life-threatening. If left untreated, it may obstruct the airway and cause difficulty in breathing and swallowing.
Kousar lives in a small house with a joint family of seven members. Her husband passed away a few years ago. She works as a maid at a private clinic and her son is an auto driver. Her family’s monthly income is PKR 30,000 per month, which is insufficient to cover utility bills as well as other living expenses. They are surviving in extreme poverty and affording to pay for her surgery is significantly challenging for them. During this dark time, Kousar contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for assistance.
Kousar said with tears in her eyes:
“At this old age, I am suffering from extreme discomfort, which is draining me. I am counting the days until I can be free from this illness. We barely fulfill our basic needs and this surgery is expensive and we can’t pay for it. I request you to please help me.”
This surgery is Kousar’s only hope to overcome her chronic health issue which will ultimately allow her to spend the golden years of her life with joy and peace.
We ask you to be generous and extend your support to Kousar. Together, we can change her life and enable her to live a healthy life.
