Jalal Ahmed, a 64-year-old resident of Karachi, is facing a daunting health challenge. Despite seeking medications from local doctors, the relief he has obtained has only been temporary. Recognizing the severity of his condition, he visited a local hospital, where he received a diagnosis of an inguinal hernia. The doctor recommended an inguinal hernia repair surgery as the necessary course of action.
Jalal lives in a rented two-marla house with his wife and three children. Their meager living conditions are further exacerbated by Jalal’s inability to work due to his health condition. Financially, they heavily rely on their son, who earns a limited income of PKR 20,000. Their expenses are significant, with house rent amounting to PKR 3,000, utility bills totaling PKR 3,000, and a noteworthy loan payable of PKR 100,000. Under these circumstances, Jalal and his family find themselves unable to afford the cost of the necessary hernia surgery.

Jalal Ahmed's Story
Jalal Ahmed, a 64-year-old man from Karachi, had been suffering from pain and swelling in his right inguinal region for one year. Despite receiving symptomatic treatment, his condition didn’t improve. Over time, the pain became unbearable, significantly impacting his ability to work and provide for his family. He could no longer ignore the symptoms that were taking a toll on his health and well-being. He consulted a doctor about his condition, who, after running some diagnostic tests and an ultrasound scan diagnosed Jalal with a right inguinal hernia.
The doctor advised that he needed to undergo inguinal hernia repair surgery to alleviate the pain and discomfort. However, the financial strain of the surgery cast a shadow of uncertainty on his path toward recovery. Jalal is unemployed, his son is the sole breadwinner in the family and makes PKR 20,000 monthly. Jalal lives in a two-room rented house with his three family members. The family’s financial situation was stretched thin as they were hardly managing the cost of house rent, utility bills, and other living expenses. Due to their financial hardships, affording the surgery was impossible for them.
A ray of hope arose when a neighbor told them about Transparent Hands. Jalal promptly contacted us and asked for help. Recognizing the gravity of his situation, we registered his case.
On June 26, 2024, Jalal was admitted to Murshid Hospital in Karachi. Dr. Attaullah, an experienced surgeon performed his inguinal hernia repair surgery. During the procedure, Jalal showed courage and the surgery went successfully.
After two days of post-operative care, Jalal was discharged from the hospital on June 29, 2024. Jalal expressed his gratitude as follows:
"I never thought I would be able to have this surgery. Thank you for supporting me and making it happen. I can’t describe my happiness in words. Now I’m recovering, and my spirit is high.”
Through the successful inguinal repair surgery, Jalal is now able to spend the remaining years of his life without pain and discomfort. He is on his way to healing, embarking on a road to face the challenges of life with new hope and resilience.
