Ashiq Rasool is a brave and resilient 3-year-old resident of Khairpur. Since birth, Ashiq has faced a challenging condition that has impacted his ability to hear. Unusual fluid continuously oozed from his ear, leading to a gradual deterioration of his hearing abilities. Despite visiting several doctors and receiving medications, Ashiq’s condition worsened, resulting in complete deafness. This inability to hear has affected his daily life and hindered his development. However, there is hope left for his loved ones in the form of cochlear implant surgery.

The doctor advised him to undergo cochlear implant surgery, which is a life-changing surgery that aims to restore hearing in individuals with severe hearing loss or deafness. The implant bypasses the damaged parts of the ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve, allowing sound signals to be transmitted to the brain. At the tender age of 3, Ashiq was faced with the challenge of sensorineural hearing loss, a condition that presented barriers in his path to experiencing the beauty of sound. Determined to help him overcome this hurdle, Ashiq’s family sought the expert care of the Institute of Medical Sciences in Gambat.

On the 5th of December 2023, Ashiq was admitted to the hospital, marking the beginning of a life-altering chapter. Under the skilled hands of the esteemed surgeon, Dr. Maqbool Ahmed, Ashiq underwent a groundbreaking right-sided cochlear implant surgery. The procedure utilized a technologically advanced cochlear implant, meticulously designed to restore hearing function in individuals with sensorineural hearing loss.

The surgery proved to be a resounding success, opening a world of auditory possibilities for Ashiq. With attentive care and a short period of recovery, Ashiq’s condition improved significantly. On the 7th of December 2023, filled with gratitude and elation, While the surgery had bestowed upon Ashiq the gift of hearing, his journey towards complete restoration was still in progress. After four weeks, an external component of the cochlear implant was installed, further enhancing Ashiq’s ability to perceive sound.
