Fozia Bibi's Story
Fozia Bibi, a 43-year-old woman from Lahore, is suffering from pain and discomfort in both knees. Fozia faces extreme difficulty while walking and carrying weight, making her dependent on others for daily tasks. Concerned about her condition, she went to a local hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing an X-ray along with some other medical tests, the doctor diagnosed her with osteoarthritis of both knees. Given the condition, her left knee is more symptomatic than the right one. Therefore, her doctor has advised her to undergo left total knee replacement surgery. However, the cost of the surgery is overwhelming for her family.
As a mother, Fozia wants to cook meals and care for her children. But now, her condition has made her dependent, and she is unable to live the life she once did. If her condition is left untreated, Fozia may experience permanent loss of movement at the knee joint, making her unable to stand, sit, and walk.
Fozia lives in a modest house with her husband, two children, and three other family members. Her husband and son work as daily wage laborers. Their monthly income is insufficient to cover their utility bills, food, and other living expenses. The financial strain of supporting a family of seven leaves them with no savings, and the cost of Fozia’s surgery is far beyond their reach.
