Farah Awaits Hysterectomy
Farah Ayaz's Story
Farah, a 41-year-old widow from Karachi, has been suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding, lower abdominal pain, and dysmenorrhea for eight years. Living with ongoing health issues drains Farah emotionally and physically. Farah finds it hard to manage her household and care for her children. She tried to manage her condition with over-the-counter medicines but found temporary relief only. Later, she decided to consult a specialist, who ran some medical tests and an ultrasound scan and diagnosed Farah with Uterine Fibroids – abnormal growths that develop in or on the uterus. To improve her quality of life, the doctor advised hysterectomy but the cost of the surgery is out of Farah’s reach.
If her condition is left untreated, she may develop anemia, which may make her even weaker and more susceptible to infections. Additionally, fibroids can grow and potentially lead to cancer.
Farah’s husband passed away four years ago, and she lives with her two school-going daughters. Farah’s family provides her with financial support of approximately PKR 10,000 per month. With this money, she pays PKR 2500 in utility bills and PKR 3500 in educational expenses. Her husband’s death placed her in a difficult financial situation. Adding to her concerns is her chronic illness, which she cannot afford to treat. During this time of need, Farah turned to Transparent Hands and asked for help.

Farah Ayaz, a 41-year-old widow from Karachi, was suffering from heavy menstrual bleeding, lower abdominal pain, and severe dysmenorrhea. These symptoms were affecting her emotionally and physically, leaving her exhausted and struggling to care for her two young daughters. For years, she tried to control her symptoms using medicines, but the relief was always temporary. After some time, Farah decided to seek help from a specialist. After conducting a thorough medical evaluation, including an ultrasound scan, the doctor diagnosed her with Uterine Fibroids. To improve her health and restore her quality of life, the doctor advised Farah to undergo a hysterectomy.
Since her husband’s death four years ago, she has been relying on the modest financial support of PKR 10,000 per month provided by her extended family. With two school-going daughters to care for, Farah could not even imagine how she would pay for such an essential operation. She faced immense financial hardships and had nowhere else to turn. A well-wisher told her about Transparent Hands. She reached out to us and asked for help. After learning about her situation, we promptly registered her case.
On February 6, 2025, Farah was admitted to Murshid Hospital in Karachi. Her surgery was successfully performed by Dr. Farkhanda Saeed. After receiving necessary medicines and post-operative care, Farah was discharged in satisfactory condition on February 8, 2025.
Farah said with happiness:
“I can’t put into words how thankful I am. For years, I lived in pain, unsure if I would ever find relief. Today, I feel like I have a new life. Thank you for giving me this chance to live without constant suffering.”
Farah is now recovering, and she can now spend a healthy and happy life with her daughters.
