Erum Gulzar Awaits Cholecystectomy to Overcome Pain
Erum Gulzar's Story
For the past three years, 40-year-old Erum Gulzar from Karachi has been suffering from unbearable pain in her upper abdomen. Each meal is a battle, as fatty foods trigger severe indigestion and nausea, leaving her weak and exhausted. What once was a simple act of eating has now become a source of discomfort for Erum. After numerous sleepless nights, Erum finally went to see a doctor. Following a series of tests, she received the shocking news she has Cholelithiasis, and the only solution is Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. The doctor strongly advised her to undergo the procedure to prevent further complications. However, the cost of the surgery is out of her financial reach.
Without the surgery, her condition may worsen. It may lead to severe infections and long-term digestive problems. The fear of what might happen if she delays treatment weighs heavily on her mind.
Erum is the sole breadwinner of her household, working at a private firm and earning just PKR 30,000 a month. She supports her elderly mother and young son, who is still in school. Every rupee she earns goes towards necessities, school fees, and household expenses, leaving nothing for medical treatment. Despite her pain, she continues working every day because she cannot afford to take time off. However, with her condition deteriorating, she fears she may soon be unable to work at all.
Erum said with teary eyes:
“This pain is becoming unbearable. I can’t afford this surgery, and I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this. My son needs me and I don’t want him to see me in pain every day. I request you to please help me in undergoing the surgery.”
