Waqas Ahmed's Story

Waqas Ahmed, a 4-year-old innocent boy from Larkana, Sindh, has been living in a silent world since birth. Due to the lack of awareness about the condition, his parents couldn’t notice his deafness until he was one year old. When his parents noticed his unresponsiveness to loud noises, they took him to a nearby hospital. After running some tests, the doctor diagnosed him with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). The news gave them a huge shock. After a thorough evaluation, the doctor advised cochlear implant surgery to enable him to hear.

Waqas’s parents are heartbroken to see their son not able to respond to sounds and hear their voices. Waqas avoids playing with kids – his condition has made him socially isolated and frustrated. Unfortunately, the cost of the surgery is overwhelming for Waqas’s family. He lives in a small two-room rented mud house with his four family members. Waqas’s father, the sole breadwinner in his family, makes just PKR 25,000 monthly. With this meager monthly income, he barely manages to cover the house rent amounting to PKR 10,000 and utility bills of PKR 2000. Affording the expensive cochlear implant surgery is impossible for the family, who are already struggling to make ends meet.

In this time of need, Waqas’s family turned to Transparent Hands and asked us to register his case.

Waqas’s parents expressed their heartfelt plea as follows:

“It gives us overwhelming sadness to see our son struggling to connect with the world. We want him to play with kids, grow up like other children, and respond to our voices. No matter how hard we try, we can’t afford the cost of his much-needed surgery. We request you to please contribute without delay.”

Transparent Hands has registered his case and aims to help him gain the ability to hear. Waqas’s life will be transformed if he gets the cochlear implant device. Your contributions will enable him to engage with his friends and family members.

Waqas Ahmed's Story

Waqas Ahmed, a 4-year-old boy from Larkana, had lived in a silent world since birth. Waqas was unable to listen to his parent’s comforting voices and the laughter of other children. While growing up, he was losing connection with his surroundings. He struggled to communicate even his basic needs and his parents were heartbroken to see him. They noticed his hearing impairment when he was one year old. They took him to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who performed a thorough examination and diagnosed Waqas with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL).

The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery as the solution. Unfortunately, the surgical cost was far beyond Waqas’s family’s financial capacity. Waqas lived in a rented mud house with his three family members. His father works as a daily wage laborer and earns just PKR 25,000 monthly. With the burden of house rent, utility bills, and other living expenses, affording the expensive surgery was impossible for Waqas’s family.

After struggling for a while, Waqas’s family learned about Transparent Hands. They reached out to us and asked us for help. Thanks to the generosity of donors, Waqas was able to get the surgery on time.

On 28-07-2024, Waqas was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. On 29-07-2024, his surgery was performed by an experienced surgeon, Dr. Maqbool. He carefully fitted the internal component of the cochlear implant device. Following surgery, Waqas finally recovered. He was hospitalized for two days and he received essential post-operative care and monitoring.

Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was carefully fitted and installed. Waqas is now attending regular speech therapy sessions to improve his communication and hearing.

Waqas’s parents expressed their gratitude as follows:

“We can’t describe the happiness we felt when Waqas turned his head in response to our voices for the first time. His transformation is nothing short of a miracle. You helped us in our time of need.”

Waqas is now discovering various sounds. He can now play and grow like other kids without missing out on opportunities due to his congenital deafness.

This surgery couldn’t have been possible without the support of generous donors like you. You brought a significant difference in Waqas’s life.
