Enable Ume Farwa to Speak
Ume Farwa's Story
Ume Farwa, a 3-year-old girl from Khanewal, is unable to recognize sounds. Concerned about her inability to hear, her parents took her to a local hospital. After a series of medical tests, the doctor diagnosed her with congenital sensorineural hearing loss and recommended cochlear implant surgery. In October 2024, Ume Farwa received the surgery with the help of Transparent Hands. However, her recovery is not yet complete. Ume Farwa can hear now, but she does not understand or recognize sounds yet. She cannot distinguish between voices, words, or emotions. Her doctor has strongly advised speech therapy, but her family can’t afford the speech therapy sessions.
Without timely speech therapy, Ume Farwa may struggle to develop language skills, face difficulties in learning, and experience social isolation. The crucial early years of her development will be lost, making it even harder for her to integrate into school and society.
Ume Farwa lives in a modest home with her six family members. Her father, a dedicated police officer, is the sole breadwinner of the family and earns PKR 50,000 per month. This income is just enough to cover their household expenses. With no additional financial support, affording speech therapy sessions is beyond their reach. Ume Farwa’s family worries that her progress will be delayed because they cannot afford speech therapy. They are desperately seeking help to ensure she can learn to speak and communicate. Her family said:
“Ume Farwa can finally hear, but she does not understand the voices and other sounds. We dream of the day when she will respond, laugh, and talk like other children. Please help her receive speech therapy so she can talk with us.”
Ume Farwa’s future is filled with potential, but she needs your support to unlock the power of speech. Your kindness can help her take the next step towards a life where she can express love, joy, and dreams. Let’s join hands to give Ume Farwa the gift of words through speech therapy for a year.
