Tanjeela Bibi's Story

Meet Tanjeela, a 3-year-old innocent girl from Shahdadkot, Sindh, who wasn’t responding to sounds. Her parents took her to a local hospital and received a medical consultation. The doctor conducted some medical tests and diagnosed Tanjeela with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). To enable her to hear and speak, the doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery. Tanjeela has never experienced the sounds that most of us take for granted—the laughter of other children, and the soothing voices of her parents. Her world is a quiet one, and it breaks her parents’ hearts to see her struggle to communicate and connect with the world around her. However, the costly procedure is out of the reach of Tanjeela’s family who struggle to make ends meet.

Without this crucial surgery on time, Tanjeela’s life will be a continuous struggle. She might not be able to overcome her deafness if she doesn’t undergo the surgery at this age. Moreover, she won’t be able to develop the ability to speak and engage with the world around her.

Tanjeela lives in a two-room mud house with her parents and a sibling. Her father works long hours as a farmer but just makes PKR 20,000 per month. They have no insurance and no savings to pay for Tanjeela’s surgery. During this challenging time, her family reached out to Transparent Hands and asked us for help.

Tanjeela’s parents said with teary eyes:

“Every day, we watch our daughter try to play with other children. But she doesn’t understand their words, and they don’t understand her silence. We don’t have enough money to pay for her surgery. Kindly help us.”

The cochlear implant surgery is a doorway to a whole new world for Tanjeela. It will allow her to develop speech, make friends, and explore many opportunities. Let’s unite to support Tanjeela. Your donations will bring sounds into Tanjeela’s silent world and allow her to grow, learn, and thrive like any other child.

Tanjeela Bibi's Story

Tanjeela, a 3-year-old girl from Shadad Kot, Sindh, was suffering from the inability to hear the sounds around her. When other children turned at the sound of a car or laughter, Tanjeela stayed still. Worried, her parents took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor. After performing some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed her with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. The doctor recommended cochlear implant surgery and explained that without this implant, Tanjeela would struggle with speech and social interactions for the rest of her life.

Tanjeela lived in a small mud house with her four family members. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, worked long hours as a farmer but earned just PKR 20,000 per month. With this meager monthly income, they could fulfill their basic needs only. The cost of the cochlear implant surgery was far beyond their reach, leaving them in despair about Tanjeela’s future. Knowing they couldn’t afford the surgery on their own, her parents reached out to Transparent Hands for help. Moved by their plight, we immediately took on Tanjeela’s case.

On 29th August 2024, Tanjeela was admitted to GIMS Hospital in Gambat. The surgery took place on 30th August 2024. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed skillfully inserted the internal component of the cochlear implant. After receiving post-operative care and critical monitoring, Tanjeela was discharged in satisfactory condition on 31st August 2024.

Six weeks after the surgery, the external component of the cochlear implant was installed. To navigate a new and vibrant world filled with sounds, Tanjeela is receiving speech therapy sessions. Her parents were overjoyed and they said with teary eyes:

“We are so grateful for the kindness we’ve received. Tanjeela can hear our voices now, and it’s the greatest gift we could have ever imagined. Thank you to everyone who helped us. You have changed our daughter’s life and given her the greatest gift.”

Tanjeela is now adapting to the world of sounds and her future holds endless possibilities for her. Tnajeela’s family is deeply thankful to you for your generosity, which has changed her life.
