Enable Sonia to See Clearly with Cataract Surgery
Sonia Mai's Story
Sonia Mai, a 27-year-old woman from Khanewal, has been living in darkness for far too long. Once full of life and dreams, she now struggles with dimness of vision in both eyes. Her condition has made even simple tasks impossible. She can no longer move around without assistance, and even recognizing the faces of her loved ones has become difficult. Recently, Sonia consulted a doctor at a local hospital. After running some medical tests, the doctor diagnosed her with bilateral cataract—a condition that has severely impaired her vision. Her doctor has recommended (R) Phaco + IOL surgery as the first step to restoring her sight. However, the surgical cost is overwhelming for her family.
With each passing day, Sonia’s world grows darker. If she does not get the surgery, she may lose her vision permanently. She fears the day when she will no longer be able to see the faces of her loved ones at all.
Sonia belongs to a large but financially struggling family. She has four sisters and two brothers, and they all depend on her eldest brother. He works as a laborer, earning only PKR 28,000 per month. Despite his hard work, his income barely covers their household expenses, leaving no room for Sonia’s medical treatment. The family is heartbroken, knowing that her vision can be improved, yet they lack the means to help her. During this challenging time, Sonia contacted Transparent Hands and asked for assistance.
Sonia said in despair:
“I never imagined my world would turn into darkness at such a young age. Each day, I struggle to see, to move, to live. My family wants to help me, but they are unable to do so. Please don’t let me lose my sight forever.”
Sonia’s only hope lies in your kindness. Your generosity can give her back her sight, her independence, and her future.
