Enable Asma Bibi to Overcome Hip Pain
Asma Bibi's Story
Meet Asma Bibi, a 16-year-old girl from Okara, who has been experiencing pain in her right hip joint for the past decade due to a fall. Since then, she has been suffering from persistent pain and discomfort in her right hip joint, which also affects her gait. Due to her condition, she faces difficulty while standing, walking, and sitting for a long time. Her parents took her to a nearby hospital and consulted a doctor, who conducted an X-ray and some medical tests and diagnosed her with bilateral hip osteoarthritis. It occurs when a cartilage that lines the joint is worn down and the bones start to rub against each other. Asma’s right hip joint is more symptomatic than the left one. Therefore, her doctor advised a right total hip replacement surgery. However, the surgical cost is beyond her family’s financial reach.
At this young age, Asma’s life is filled with hardships and she struggles to perform her routine tasks. If she doesn’t get the surgery soon, she may experience permanent loss of movement at her hip joint. Eventually, it may make her unable to stand, sit, and walk.
Asma lives in a small mud house with her parents and six siblings. Her father, the sole breadwinner in the family, works as a daily wage laborer and brings in just PKR 30,000 per month. With this insufficient monthly income, he barely covers utility bills and other living expenses. They don’t even have any savings, which makes their financial hardships worse. Therefore, they can’t afford the surgery which will give Asma a second chance at life and the ability to move without pain and discomfort. That’s when Asma’s family contacted Transparent Hands and asked us for help.
Asma’s parents said in grief:
“We can’t see our daughter in this painful state anymore. We are praying for her recovery. But we don’t have enough means and we don’t know where the circumstances will lead to. We can’t do anything for her. Kindly support us during this time of need.”
Asma is wishing for the day when she will be able to walk without pain. This is where your support matters a lot. To allow Asma to have a pain-free life, contribute as much as you can.
